ASK Your Doctor Overview
When someone is diagnosed with cancer, it's like a thunderstorm deluge; information overload, worries about the future and emotions are all in upheaval At the same time, that person may appreciate guidance as to what to focus on when consulting their doctors and engaging in productive conversations.
Each of the following sections contain example questions that function as a springboard for the patient in forming their own questions to ask when meeting with their physicians. These example questions are not exhaustive by any means but may spark a conversation about an unknown but pertinent subject in pursuit of defining their disease as well as its potential treatment.
Write down such questions as they arise and ponder them a bit before your meeting with your doctor so you capture and distill which topics are the most important to you. It helps to have your questions in front of you so you can focus and not get as distracted during your meeting.
