Carry Bag Contents
Here are a few suggestions for what to keep in your "carry bag" during treatment
Journal: Write down questions that arise to ask your doctor next time you see them. Capture doctor reminders, suggestions from your nurses as you tend to be more forgetful.
Water bottle
If you have a port, include your Lidocaine and Prilocaine Cream and large bandaids or clear adhesion stickers (ask Nurse) so you can put a blob of the cream on your port and cover it 1 hour before port access appointment.
Sickness Bag- grab a couple of the blue bags from the nurses or buy a box. Keep a couple tucked in your car and in your treatment bag.
Sugar free candies (Jolly Rancher version etc) or ginger candies can help with dry mouth by stimulating saliva or stave off mild nausea
Anti-nausea meds if they aren't provided by the Nurse
Crackers, Power bar, nuts in case you get hungry.
If you are being given blood thinners, buy a box of coagulant, in individual packets in case you cut yourself. I also kept several packets in the trunk of my car in a Emergency bag along with sterile pads just in case.
Bandaids
Skin Lotion
Lightweight blanket, socks, fleece jacket, a warm hat as you tend to get cold when receiving infusions over time
Games, deck of cards, a book, adult coloring book & colored pencils, art project to keep distracted and entertained
iPad to listen to Audiobooks, podcasts, watch movies as some treatments can make it hard to focus on a book. Choose light topics, more upbeat, as it can be challenging going through treatment
Bring ear pods so as to not disturb other patients
