Overview
Managing the effects of cancer and its therapy is a very important aspect of treatment as it improves quality of life as well as increases the likelihood that patients are able to endure and continue a promising treatment regimen. Unfortunately, the medical community may not always have the bandwidth to assist patients with day-to-day symptom management that arise with many cancer treatment regimens.
The Symptom Alleviation Guide wiki (formerly known as LungPedia) is a patient-to-patient reference resource containing recommendations for questions often asked by recently diagnosed cancer patients as well as those undergoing treatment. The advice outlined is based upon symptom alleviation techniques experienced by cancer patients and by its nature is anecdotal.
Topics are identified by more recognizable descriptions and organized by body system descriptions following medical industry standards. Topics are arranged following an anatomical flow. Brief descriptions of symptom manifestations for each topic are included, followed by a non comprehensive list of potential solutions.
The suggestions contained in this wiki are based upon successful cancer patient experiences but by definition are anecdotal in nature. These suggestions are a springboard for you to try what may have worked for others but may not be effective in addressing your symptoms. Use common sense when following these suggestions.
Common sense and a physician’s oversight should always be exercised when addressing side effects and symptoms related to cancer treatment. Discuss your symptoms as well as these suggestions with your physician or oncologist before taking any over-the-counter supplements or other therapies as they may interfere with your treatment.
